Join the Corps

Volunteerism has been on the decline, but the need hasn't. Today we need both riding and non-riding volunteers to help support our community's ambulance service. Experience is helpful, but not necessary — we provide all the training, equipment, and uniforms.

Adult Volunteer

Riding & Non-Riding Members

Become an Associate Member and help support the Corps' committees, or become a riding member and train as a driver and/or EMT. Give whatever time you can — we'll provide the rest.

Junior Member Program

Open to teens ages 15–17. Junior Members receive uniforms, CPR, and first-aid training, take part in community outreach, and may ride as a crew member with parental approval during certain hours. At 16, Junior Members can pursue New York State Certified First Responder certification; at 17, they can begin the EMT course, as long as their 18th birthday falls after the final exam.

Employment

Paid EMT Positions

Because most of our volunteers work weekdays, we supplement coverage with paid EMTs. Minimum requirements: a valid New York State EMT certification, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens training, and at least one year's experience as a Crew Chief and driver.

College Tuition Assistance for Volunteers

As a Rockland County volunteer EMS member, you may qualify for two county tuition programs on top of the training and certification we provide:

H.E.R.R.O.

The county's Higher Education Recruitment & Retention Opportunities program reimburses active volunteer members up to $6,000 a year (up to $3,000 per semester) toward tuition at any accredited college. Members generally need at least a year of active service and to keep up required activity levels to apply.

E.D.G.E.S.

The Educational Development and Growth for Emergency Services program is a partnership between Rockland County and Rockland Community College that covers full tuition for active volunteers attending RCC.

Programs are run by the Rockland County Office of Fire & Emergency Services. Details and eligibility rules change — confirm current terms at rocklandcountyny.gov before promoting specific figures.
